My Generation Energy has teamed up with Christ the King Church and Luminous Solar to launch a community solar project aimed at providing solar energy to residents, businesses, and nonprofits on Cape Cod. This project marks a significant step towards Massachusetts’ clean energy future and underscores My Generation Energy’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
“Partnering with Christ the King and Luminous Solar to develop the community solar garden was a collaborative way for us to continue to provide locally produced power to residents, local businesses and nonprofits,” said Andrew Wade, President and CEO of My Generation Energy. “The intent of this project is to ensure that the benefits of renewable energy can continue to be offered to Cape Codders who may otherwise be unable to directly participate in renewable energy production. Collaborating with Christ the King allowed us the space to meet that goal.”
For clean energy enthusiasts, community solar projects are a compelling option to accelerate support for renewable energy. “Christ the King Church is very happy to have partnered with Luminous Solar and My Generation Energy to host and participate in this wonderful new solar collaborative,” said Father Edward J. Healey, Pastor of Christ the King Church.
To maintain the charming aesthetic of Christ the King Church, 4 carefully designed solar carport structures were installed across the Church’s parking lot located on Jobs Fishing Road in Mashpee. The eye-catching solar canopy, which can be seen from Route 151, offers shade above each parking space. The system holds a combined 1,358 solar panels and is expected to generate approximately 737,000 kWh of clean energy annually.
“Following the success of the Brewster Community Solar Garden® program we’re pleased to be able to continue to provide electric bill savings to the community,” said Wade.
Power from the Cape Cod Solar Project is fed into the local grid and credited to subscribers through their monthly Eversource utility bills based on their level of participation. The system was interconnected in May and has been operational for five months. Subscriptions are purchased on an annual basis, and the system is currently at 100% capacity serving 33 households, one local business, and two Cape-based nonprofits.
To offset the cost of construction, My Generation Energy enlisted support from Luminous Solar. Luminous Solar is a Cape-based entity who owns and operates solar facilities to provide a win-win with property owners, non-profits, or businesses who might not otherwise be in a position to carry the cost of installing solar. This keeps all the energy dollars within the community, further improving the Cape’s environment and economy.
My Generation Energy is currently working with Luminous Solar on similar projects that will bring economic benefit to more Cape-based communities. The Cape Cod Community Solar Project is another step toward a renewable energy future for everyone.

About the Cape Cod Community Solar Project
The Cape Cod Community Solar Project is a shared renewable energy system for Cape-based residents and businesses coming together to achieve energy independence. Its mission focuses on providing a renewable energy source for those with the desire to go solar but unable to due to shading, limited roof space, not owning their home, or the cost of system ownership. Becoming a member of the Cape Cod Community Solar Project makes renewable energy more affordable for all.
